The female dorms are the same four bed layout as the mixed rooms, with the same bathroom inside the room. The only difference is who we put in them.

Reception holds these rooms back rather than releasing them to mixed bookings when the hostel fills up.

Nothing is added to your room rate at the desk. The rate you book is the rate you pay. Bring coins for the lockers, though — the machines don’t give change.

Brú Bar is not down the road. It is the ground floor of the building you are sleeping in, with live music five nights a week and all the sport on our big screens.

Show your keycard at the bar if you booked direct and the first half pint of Beamish is on us.

How is the female dorm kept female only?

It isn’t just the room — the whole floor is female only. Reception never releases those rooms into general availability, and the only exception is a group booking together who have told us they are happy to share with a man.

Is the female dorm the same layout as the mixed one?

Yes. Four beds, bunks, and a bathroom inside the room. The layout and the fittings are identical.

How many female dorm beds are there?

Twelve, across three rooms, all on the second floor.

Can I request a particular dorm?

Not a specific room, no. Reception places you in whichever female dorm has space, but all three are the same four-bed layout on the second floor, so you’re getting the same room either way.
